Life loves to get in the way of our wellbeing. It can be hard to find the support to indulge in self-love, but luckily we’re here to give you our top tips to get you feeling your best.
We’re always speeding through life, and sometimes it’s easier to take a two-minute shower and run to our next task. Give your body the love it deserves, and soak in a soft bubble bath uninterrupted. Our favourite is to add a bath bomb and light our Lavender Vanilla Candle. Transport yourself to a place of ultimate relaxation - something we all need during these cool winter months. Technology, our phones, social media… At the end of a long day, we sit on our couch and scroll and scroll through those news feeds. Ditch your phone and end your day reading an uplifting book or doodling in your journal. Without realizing it, we contribute to our stress with our little gadgets, when we can give ourselves a peace of mind and sharpen our brains. Not only will reading a book before bed improve your sleep, but it will also explore that creative side and make us more empathetic to the world around. Spending time outdoors the best self care habit to make for this new year to increase your happy hormones, improve mood and get your heart rate up. Outdoor exercise has so many health benefits and can help you get a good night’s sleep. Incorporate other exercises into your outdoor routine like walking to stimulate the mind and improve your health. We personally LOVE doing yoga outside (weather permitting).
Breathing is the best de-stressor, and what we breathe is the key. Diffuse a calming essential oil like lavender or chamomile and trigger the ultimate relaxation response. If you’re someone who is always on the go, carry some stimulating aromatherapy oils like orange with you for a quick boost when you’re on the run. If you’re a candle lover like us, then you probably have a collection of empty candle holders scattered all over your home. Beautiful candles holders are now piling up deep in your closets collecting dust. But don't worry, we are here to take that “throwing away” guilt from you and give you some easy tips on how to reuse them!
Before you can put your lovely candle holders to use, you have to clean them out. It may seem like this is an endless process, tirelessly scrubbing that wax out of your container. Well, we’re here to tell you that there is any easier way this could be done without an hour workout session on your arms. Simply boil water and pour into into your finished candle. Leave the water in the candle holder for roughly 2-3 hours and you should be able to remove the wax from the told of the holder. Then wash out the remaining wax and rinse.

We always want to be conscious of our health and the environment, which is why we chose to create soy candles. CLARRI HILL candles are handcrafted with soy wax, a 100% cotton lead-free wick and they are non-toxic.
You may be asking yourself, why are soy wax candles better, and why is their price tag a bit heftier?
The most common wax that candles are made from is called paraffin. Paraffin is harmful to you and the environment. It’s made from the residue leftover from oil refining. The soot from paraffin candles has many different toxic chemicals. Paraffin wax also comes from a non-renewable resource, which is why it’s much harder on the environment. Soy wax also burns on average 35% - 50% longer than regular parrafin candles.

I know what you’re thinking! Why would I buy a soy candle that is so much more expensive when I could spend $10 a candle twice the size? Soy candles seem to be more expensive, but they have a much longer burn time. On average, they burn 35% - 50% longer than paraffin wax, giving you much better value for money. They also tend to burn more evenly than paraffin, resulting in more candle available to burn.
Soy wax is a clean-burning candle, which means that soy doesn’t leave behind soot like paraffin wax candles do! Soy burns produces as much as 90% less soot, reducing the amount of indoor air pollution. It also doesn't release toxins, carcinogens or pollutants, which means it’s less likely to trigger allergies. The air will be cleaner and safer for everyone. If you notice that your soy candles are producing some soot, an easy way to reduce it even further is by trimming the wick. You should be trimming your wick to ¼ inch each time before you light it. It will keep your candle from creating soot, mushrooming and providing a better burn.
Other than the heavenly scents, how could a candle be good for my home? Well, the emissions and shoot from paraffin candles tend to build up on walls. This ends up staining the paint in your home (gross). They also build up in fabrics and in carpets, which affects the air quality in your home. Soy wax is also biodegradable!
Soy wax is a carbon-neutral product, meaning you can enjoy your candle knowing it hasn't had a negative impact on the environment. Also, soy washes away with warm soapy water making it easy to repurpose your candle glass once the candle is done. We use ours for drinking glasses, bathroom organizers and jewellery holders!
